Starry Night Pro is our astronomy software program of choice, and has been so from the very beginning.
Please note, by the way, that this posting is not advertising on our part nor are we in any way affiliated with Starry Night Pro.
We originally selected this program when it was in the version Starry Night Pro 3, whereas it is at the time of this writing being offered as Starry Night 7, with many new and advanced features directed at modern astronomy enthusiasts. We use Starry Night Pro for historical astronomical research.
We had one major reason for selecting Starry Night Pro in Version 3 a number of years ago. See the FAQs at Starry Night Pro for VERY DETAILED topics about Starry Night Pro 3.
That reason was the ability to set the positions of the stars anywhere in time from 99998 BC to 99999 AD and exactly at any location on Earth ("View the Sky from Anywhere").
Those features are of course essential in deciphering megalithic sites that are astronomical in nature.
There had to be a way to visualize the heavens as the people of prehistorical viz. ancient times saw the starry sky in their eras.
Starry Night provided that tool and we use it regularly in our work, most recently in deciphering the Avebury Stones of Avebury Henge as astronomy.
Starry Night Pro is an absolutely essential tool for archaeoastronomical work.
There would be no way to conduct our astronomical decipherments without this program.
We cite to it often and include clips from the sky of the program in our decipherment images.
We can recommend the program heartily to anyone interested in the subject matter of LexiLine.
